Terlton volunteer firefighters are searching for answers after their chief suddenly disappeared with the department's money, KOKI-TV.

Firefighters say the last time they saw Fire Chief Charles Badgwell was on Sept. 6.

"We came back a little before midnight, and he and (his girlfriend) were both here and the next morning one of our firefighters discovered he was missing," Firefighter Shawna Spoonemore.

Along with Badgwell and Janet Kirk, money and records have also vanished from the department.

The Pawnee County Sheriff's office is currently investigating what happened.

The department has elected a new chief and the county says it will help anyway it can.

"We’re here to support Terlton to get them on the right track and get them some positive leadership so their guys can do their job effectively," Pawnee County Emergency Director Mark Randell told the news station.
