Milwaukee Department of Public Works crews have responded to more than two dozen calls for open fire hydrants around the city this week.
At least 30 hydrants have been illegally opened over the last three days, including one near 40th and Wright streets.
Officials said three of the hydrants were destroyed and will have to be replaced.
City leaders and firefighters said using hydrants to cool off risks public safety.
Anyone caught opening a hydrant will face fines of up to $1,000 or 30 days in jail.
