S.C. Assistant Chief Dies After Response

A Startex assistant fire chief was found unresponsive by family members at his home on June 19 after responding to a fire one day earlier.Assistant Chief Robin Erlic West was dispatched with crews to an electrical fire at a home on Chestnut Street and also responded to multiple calls stemming from a storm that passed through the area that afternoon, according to the USFA.The 55-year-old began to feel ill and an ambulance that was sent to his home transported him to a local hospital.

A Startex assistant fire chief was found unresponsive by family members at his home on June 19 after responding to a fire one day earlier.

Assistant Chief Robin Erlic West was dispatched with crews to an electrical fire at a home on Chestnut Street and also responded to multiple calls stemming from a storm that passed through the area that afternoon, according to the USFA.

The 55-year-old began to feel ill and an ambulance that was sent to his home transported him to a local hospital.

He was evaluated and released early the next morning but was found dead by family members about three hours after returning home.

The cause of his death has yet to be determined.

Robin was a member of the department for 35 years and worked as an inventory control manager at Agilysys in Taylors, S.C.

He is survived by his wife, Melba; son, Joshua; daughter, Jessi W. Hill; and two grandsons.

Funeral Arrangements

Visitation for Assistant West will be held Wednesday, June 22 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Seawright Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at Lyman United Methodist Church at Thursday, June 23 at 4 p.m.

Interment will follow at Perkins Cemetery.
