HAMTRAMCK, Mich. --

Several houses were burning Wednesday night on Faber Street near Joseph Campau Street in Hamtramck.

There were no reports of injuries.

The homes burned for hours as firefighters worked to douse the blaze.

At least three houses were consumed by the fire which forced two city blocks to be evacuated and shut down.

Witnesses said an abandoned home caught fire and spread to two occupied houses.

"Everything is gone," said Delisha Morris, who said her house was destroyed by the fire.

Morris said she was inside her home on the first floor with her two sons when she smelled smoke.

"I came outside and saw smoke coming out of there and I called the fire department," Morris said. "Then it went up in blazes all of the sudden."

Neighbors said the house where the fire started has been vacant for years and should have been torn down.

The cause is under investigation.
