Hawaii Firefighter Shocked by Power Lines

HALEIWA, Hawaii -- A 40-year-old Honolulu firefighter was hospitalized after he was shocked by fallen electrical wires. Manovara Worthington and his crew were responding to a house fire on the North Shore at 8:30 a.m. on Pohakuloa Way. The initial emergency call was for a pole fire. Firefighters found an energized downed power line laying on hedges and fences. They isolated the area and warned nearby residents, fire officials said.

A 40-year-old Honolulu firefighter was hospitalized after he was shocked by fallen electrical wires.

Manovara Worthington and his crew were responding to a house fire on the North Shore at 8:30 a.m. on Pohakuloa Way.

The initial emergency call was for a pole fire. Firefighters found an energized downed power line laying on hedges and fences. They isolated the area and warned nearby residents, fire officials said.

While firefighters were there a fire started in a nearby carport, Worthington was injured as the fire crew began fighting the fire.

Paramedics treated the man and took him to Queen's Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

Firefighters extinguished the house fire and crews fixed the downed wires.
