SPRING, Texas --

A fire broke out at a north Harris County lumber company Friday afternoon and spread quickly.

Firefighters were sent to the Bayer Lumber Co. in the 26700 block of Aldine Westfield at 3 p.m.

By 4 p.m., the fire had spread to other structures and continued to burn. It was contained by 6 p.m. and firefighters continued to keep an eye on hot spots until 10 p.m.

Officials said the blaze spread quickly because the flames reached a hay barn.

Fire investigators said two 12-year-old boys were spotted riding their bicycles from the scene shortly after the blaze began and may have set it. They were being questioned by officers.

No injuries were reported.

The company was closed about 20 years ago, according to the owners. The last fire at the property occurred in 1953.
