La. Volunteer Firefighter Accused of Arson

DOYLINE, La. --

A Webster Parish volunteer firefighter was arrested Sunday in connection with two building fires that investigators believe were intentionally set.

State Fire Marshal H. “Butch” Browning said Brandon Martin, 31, faces a charge of simple arson of a residence and aggravated arson for a fire set at an apartment complex. Martin is a volunteer member for Webster Parish Fire Protection District #3.

The first fire happened on March 22 at North Park Apartments, located at 100 N. Park Dr. in Doyline. The fire damaged the complex's office and laundry room. There were no injuries.

Four weeks later, a fire destroyed an unoccupied home at 350 S. Morgan St.

A multi-agency investigation led to Martin's arrest. Investigators said they have not identified a motive, but officials said Martin did respond to the fires he set in his official capacity as a volunteer firefighter. Investigators believe that he acted alone, and no other arrests are expected.

Martin was being held in the Webster Parish Jail with no bond issued.
