WATERLOO, S.C. --
The home of the Waterloo fire chief caught fire early Wednesday morning in Laurens County.
The home is on Saluda River Circle near Lake Greenwood.
The chief said he smelled smoke and ran into the laundry room and saw the fire. He said he tried to use a fire extinguisher and water hose to put the fire out, but realized it was spreading quickly.
He said he then helped four other people inside the home get out.
A firefighter was seen being pulled from a window of the home and placed in an ambulance, but it was not clear how severely he was injured.
The chief suffered minor injuries to his foot.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
