Conn. Multi-Family House Fire Kills Three People

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- New Haven fire officials said three people died after a blaze on Wolcott Street on Wednesday morning. The blaze was reported in the Fair Haven section of the city at around 1:30 a.m. at a multi-family home. Officials from the New Haven Fire Department confirmed three people were were killed, but their identities were unknown. Fire Chief Michael Grant said that people were jumping from the second-floor windows to escape the fire.

New Haven fire officials said three people died after a blaze on Wolcott Street on Wednesday morning.

The blaze was reported in the Fair Haven section of the city at around 1:30 a.m. at a multi-family home.

Officials from the New Haven Fire Department confirmed three people were were killed, but their identities were unknown.

Fire Chief Michael Grant said that people were jumping from the second-floor windows to escape the fire.

"People were jumping out of the window," said Grant. "People were on the porch. Firefighters saved those people."

Police and firefighters set up a command center near the intersection of Poplar and Wolcott streets after the blaze to investigate.

"The fire is under under investigation right now," Grant said. "It looks like the fire started on the second floor and spread up to the third floor."

In addition to the three people who were killed, eight people were taken to local hospitals to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
