Mayday Transmitted During Baltimore Fire

BALTIMORE --

Authorities said one firefighter suffered complications while battling a two-alarm fire Sunday in the 3600 block of Second Street in Brooklyn.

Baltimore City fire crews found heavy smoke pouring from the house when they arrived at 5 a.m.

Crews reported "firefighter down" shortly after entering the building. The firefighter was taken to University of Maryland Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Inside the burning building, firefighters found a man suffering from 2nd-and-3rd degree burns to more than 60 percent of his body. The victim was taken to Bayview Burn Center in critical condition.

The fire damaged a second adjacent home.

There is no word on the cause of the fire.
