WORCESTER, Mass.--
A four-alarm fire destroyed a building that was under construction in Worcester early Tuesday morning.
The fire at 22 Charlton St. started at about 2:20 a.m. in one building and spread to three other buildings.
Along with the frigid temperatures, firefighters had to deal with three frozen water hydrants.
"It was fully involved upon arrival. It was a tough fire to fight," Worcester Fire Department District Chief Geoffrey Gardell said.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, but 12 families were displaced.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
