BOSTON --

A dog survived nearly one month locked inside a condemned building that was gutted by fire in February.

Lola, a longhaired dachshund, was presumed dead in the Feb. 23 fire. Terisa Acevedo found Lola inside the River Street building on Monday.

"I just heard scratches at the door. And I was like, 'What is that?' We thought it was a raccoon or something in the house, and I'm like, 'No, no, no.' I started tapping on the door. She started scratching more. She started crying, and we tore the door down and there she was," Acevedo said.

Lola was taken Angell Animal Medical Center on Monday, according to MSPCA-Angell spokesman Brian Adams.

"We are doing some blood work as well as some X-rays. We want to make sure that her lungs are OK following the fire," Adams said. "Lola remains upbeat given her ordeal."
