Fiery Crash Kills One, Hurts Three in Colorado

LONGMONT, Colo. -- Police believe speeding was a factor in an early-morning car crash that left one man dead and three others injured. Longmont police and firefighters were called to Weld County Road 1 and East 9th Avenue on reports of a vehicle on fire. As rescuers arrived, they found a 2006 Chrysler 300 on fire in a ditch. According to Longmont police, the impact of the crash knocked a concrete barrier about 50 feet and the car about 75 feet from the highway.

Police believe speeding was a factor in an early-morning car crash that left one man dead and three others injured.

Longmont police and firefighters were called to Weld County Road 1 and East 9th Avenue on reports of a vehicle on fire.

As rescuers arrived, they found a 2006 Chrysler 300 on fire in a ditch.

According to Longmont police, the impact of the crash knocked a concrete barrier about 50 feet and the car about 75 feet from the highway.

Officers and firefighters said they pulled a man out of the car, found one woman ejected from the vehicle and another woman outside of the car. She had managed to get out on her own.

The fourth man, who was said to be the driver, was declared dead at the scene, according to Longmont police spokesman Jeff Satur.

The two surviving women were transported to Longmont United Hospital. The surviving man was flown to University Hospital in Denver.

The condition of the surviving victims was not known.

An autopsy is underway for the fourth victim at McKee Medical Center in Loveland. It is not known whether the man died from the crash or the fire that resulted from the wreck.
