Georgia Firefighter Dies After Becoming Ill

An Augusta firefighter collapsed and died on Jan. 29 behind the wheel of his personal vehicle while en route to the doctor's office after he fell ill at his fire station.
An Augusta firefighter collapsed and died on Jan. 29 behind the wheel of his personal vehicle while en route to the doctor's office after he fell ill at his fire station.

Firefighter Antonio E. Jones was found in the vehicle by responding crews and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the USFA.

Jones was on duty at the firehouse when he requested to leave to see his family physician because he wasn't feeling well. The 44-year-old collapsed behind the wheel of his vehicle causing a minor collision.

The cause of Jones' death has yet to be determined.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
