CINCINNATI --

Cincinnati firefighters had a bit of a hike to reach a fire in Corryville on Friday morning.

Firefighters were called to the Park Tower apartments on Burnet Avenue just before 11 a.m. on a report of a fire on the 11th floor.

But when crews tried to override the standard elevator lockout used when fire alarms occur, they weren't able to get the elevators to work, forcing them to walk up to the fire.

Additional crews were brought to help relieve the firefighters.

Fire officials said a woman was cooking in the apartment and left the food unattended to use the restroom. She returned to find the stove on fire.

But instead of calling 911, firefighters said, the woman sought out the building supervisor, who called 911.

Evacuations were hampered, firefighters said, because the closest rescue truck was browned out Friday, but no injuries were reported.
