Md. Bus Catches Fire, Damages Cars

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. -- A D.C. Metrobus being driven by a mechanic caught fire Friday morning, resulting in damage to at least 12 cars parked nearby. The incident occurred at about 9 a.m. at the Davidsonville park-and-ride lot at Maryland Route 50 and Davidsonville Road. The county fire department said the driver realized there was a problem and pulled into the lot. By the time fire crews arrived, the bus was fully engulfed in flames.

A D.C. Metrobus being driven by a mechanic caught fire Friday morning, resulting in damage to at least 12 cars parked nearby.

The incident occurred at about 9 a.m. at the Davidsonville park-and-ride lot at Maryland Route 50 and Davidsonville Road.

The county fire department said the driver realized there was a problem and pulled into the lot. By the time fire crews arrived, the bus was fully engulfed in flames.

More than two dozen firefighters responded to the scene and needed about 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
