LOUISVILLE, Ky. --

Two firefighters are recovering from burns after battling a four-alarm house fire in Fairdale Sunday.

The blaze broke out at a home in the 9400 block of Minute Men Court in Fairdale.

Fairdale Fire Chief Don Wittry said that the homeowner was cleaning the basement floor with acetone, a highly flammable chemical.

"Apparently the acetone found an ignition source. The part of the process that is the drying took approximately 30 minutes, but about 20 minutes into the process, the acetone ignited," said Wittry.

Firefighters from Fairdale, Pleasure Ridge Park and Okolona battled the blaze for more than three hours before gaining control.

The homeowner was not injured.
