Van Slams Into Ind. Home, Sparks Fire

SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. -- One person was killed when a van crashed into a home south of Shelbyville, sparking a fire, police said. The crash happened Wednesday afternoon in the 6500 block of South State Road 9, the Shelby County Sheriff's Department said. Witnesses said the van was northbound on State Road 9 when it veered off the roadway, struck a piece of concrete and launched into the front of the house.

The crash happened Wednesday afternoon in the 6500 block of South State Road 9, the Shelby County Sheriff's Department said.

Witnesses said the van was northbound on State Road 9 when it veered off the roadway, struck a piece of concrete and launched into the front of the house.

When firefighters arrived, they found the house engulfed in flames. The driver of the van was found dead inside the vehicle.

Police said no one was home at the time, though several firefighters were treated to heat-related ailments.

The driver's name was not released Wednesday evening.
