LAS VEGAS --
A fire in the small town of Moapa had grown to 680 acres and destroyed 10 homes, Bureau of Land Management officials said Thursday night.
Five other buildings were also destroyed by the fire, officials said.
One person, an inmate crew worker for the Nevada Division of Forestry, was treated for heat exhaustion, officials said.
Because no other buildings are in danger, firefighting crews were being called back from the fire, with one 20-person hand crew and one engine remaining on site for the overnight.
On Friday, firefighting resources will be increased, with 10 engines, four air tankers, one helicopter and five hand crews.
All roads in the area have been reopened and the American Red Cross was on hand to help evacuees.
The cause of the fire is unknown but it started in the Warm Springs Natural Area, a parcel of land owned by the Southern Nevada Water Authority, officials said.
Moapa is located near Interstate 15 between Las Vegas and Mesquite.
State Route 168, the main highway through the town, was closed to all traffic between mile markers 13 and 17 due to fire and smoke, police said.
The flames could be seen burning rows of palm tress and grass in the marshy area.
Authorities said 60 people voluntarily evacuated.
Planes and a helicopter were seen attacking the fire from the sky while fire engines and their crews worked to put out the flames on the ground.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
