SEATAC, Wash. --

An international flight from South Korea to Dallas was diverted to Seatac Airport early Saturday morning when crews detected a burning smell onboard, Seatac Airport spokesman Perry Cooper said.

Korean Air flight 31, a 747 en route from Incheon International Airport to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, landed safely at Seatac at 3:58 a.m., said Cooper.

The smell was described as an electrical odor, said Cooper.

Kristina Thompson-Mudd, a passenger on board the plane, told KIRO 7 News that about 45 minutes after the smell was detected, the crew told passengers that they were checking into the odor.

The lights in the restrooms went out, but the flight was neither bumpy nor frightening, Thompson-Mudd said. No one on the plane seemed anxious or afraid.

When the plane landed, there were emergency fire units waiting on the ground, said Thompson-Mudd. Firefighters boarded the plane, and soon the passengers were asked to exit.

Passengers did not immediately know how soon they would be allowed to continue their flight.
