Calif. Crews Rescue Woman After Fall Off Cliff

CARLSBAD, Calif. -- A Riverside County woman is being treated at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla after she fell down a cliff Tuesday night in Carlsbad. The incident was reported around 8:55 p.m. at Cerezo Drive off Carlsbad Boulevard in an area known as Terramar where a dirt jogging trail zigzags above the beach. Firefighters told 10News that the woman, who is in her 30s, was running along the cliffs with her boyfriend, when they did not realize the trail abruptly ended.

A Riverside County woman is being treated at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla after she fell down a cliff Tuesday night in Carlsbad.

The incident was reported around 8:55 p.m. at Cerezo Drive off Carlsbad Boulevard in an area known as Terramar where a dirt jogging trail zigzags above the beach.

Firefighters told 10News that the woman, who is in her 30s, was running along the cliffs with her boyfriend, when they did not realize the trail abruptly ended.

The woman fell about 25 feet to a ledge, which sat right above another 15- to 20-foot drop to the beach below, according to firefighters.

The womans boyfriend tried to get to her from a nearby staircase, but when that was not successful, he called for help.

According to emergency dispatch, the woman suffered traumatic injuries and was airlifted to the hospital. She was reportedly conscious and alert.
