Hawaii Firefighters Rescue Hang-Glider Pilot

MAKAPUU, Hawaii -- A fire rescue crew airlifted an injured hang glider pilot off the mountain near Makapuu this afternoon. A Honolulu Fire Department spokesman said paragliders hiking to their launch site on the Kalama Valley side of the ridge found the man about 3 p.m. and called 911. The man did not have obvious injuries but was disoriented. He was flown by helicopter off the mountain and taken to a hospital. It is unclear how long the victim was on the mountain.
