SAN ANTONIO --

Dozens of people were forced to evacuate the downtown library Tuesday evening, after insulation near the building's roof began to smolder.

Witnesses inside the building reported the third floor filling with smoke as they left the building.

According to firefighters, workers had been tarring the roof of the library, and some of that tar leaked into the insulation, causing it to melt and smolder. Firefighters tore through the tin roof of the building to get to the insulation and douse it with extinguishers.

Everyone inside the building made it out safely, and no one sought medical treatment.

The library remained closed the rest of the night, with plans to re-open in the morning.
