3 Ala. Firefighters Injured in Collapse

Three Rocky Ridge firefighters were injured when a deck collapsed while they put out hot spots at a house five yesterday morning, according to the Birmingham News.All three firefighters have since been released from UAB Hospital, Fire Chief John Lord told the newspaper.The fire was caused by a lightning strike at approximately 6 a.m. and caused extensive damage to the home on Bridge Water Road.

The fire was caused by a lightning strike at approximately 6 a.m. and caused extensive damage to the home on Bridge Water Road.

The firefighters were standing on the wooden deck around 9:50 a.m. when it collapsed, causing them to fall about 15 to 18 feet.

They suffered head and back injuries, and one firefighter was briefly knocked unconscious, according to the report.
