Three Rocky Ridge firefighters were injured when a deck collapsed while they put out hot spots at a house five yesterday morning, according to the Birmingham News.
All three firefighters have since been released from UAB Hospital, Fire Chief John Lord told the newspaper.
The fire was caused by a lightning strike at approximately 6 a.m. and caused extensive damage to the home on Bridge Water Road.
The firefighters were standing on the wooden deck around 9:50 a.m. when it collapsed, causing them to fall about 15 to 18 feet.
They suffered head and back injuries, and one firefighter was briefly knocked unconscious, according to the report.
