INTERLACHEN, Fla. --

Putnam County Sheriff's officers said an Interlachen man is being treated for severe burns at Shands Hospital in Gainesville after a meth lab in the man's bedroom was engulfed in flames.

Investigators said 32-year-old Robert Spengler suffered burns to 80 percent of his body on Monday and is in critical condition.

Deputies said they went to Spengler's residence to determine the cause of his injuries when they found the active meth lab.

Investigators said the lab was found to be a "one pot" method, which is very dangerous and and an unstable process that has a tendency to explode during manufacturing.

Spengler could face criminal charges for the manufacture of methamphetamine and arson. The arson charge would result from a fire being started during the commission of a felony.
