KISSIMMEE, Fla. --

An explosion was reported inside a Central Florida motel room Thursday night, according to members of the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.

Members of the OCSO and the Osceola County Fire Department responded to the Carefree Inn at 4900 W. Highway 192 in Kissimmee at about 6:30 p.m.

When units arrived at the scene, motel guests reported hearing an explosion in a room and that the room's door and windows had been blown out. Firefighters said they found a fire burning in the third-floor room containing ingredients to make crystal meth.

About 50 to 60 guests were evacuated from the motel and about half were back in their rooms by 10 p.m.

Police said two people of interest have been taken into custody after being found near the motel and identified by witnesses as staying in the room that had exploded. Police said the men were in their 20s and were tourists visiting from Georgia.

One of the people was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center with burns so bad that he had to be transferred to Shands Hospital. The other was treated at the scene for leg burns and is being interviewed by the OCSO.

Investigators said they're working to dismantle the meth lab so that all the guests may return to their rooms.
