Two Women Rescued From N.C. Fire

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --

Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at a three-story condo building in southwest Charlotte shortly before 5 a.m. Friday.

They rescued two women from third-floor units at the Emerald Point Condos on Emerald Point Drive, near Shopton Road West.

Firefighters used extension ladders to reach both of the women, who were on back balconies.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters evacuated all 18 units and got the fire under control. They were able to save more than two-thirds of the structure and estimate that the fire did about $500,000 worth of damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Red Cross representatives were on the scene to help displaced residents.
