PORT AUSTIN, Mich. --

A 23-year-old woman has been identified as the victim of a Huron County house fire.

Authorities have also confirmed the woman was the daughter of a local firefighter.

Flames ripped through the home in the 8500 block of Lake Street in Port Austin around 4 a.m. Sunday.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found Christy Byrne, a single mother and daughter of Lt. Jack Byrne, of the Port Austin Fire Department.

She was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

Autopsy results showed Byrnes died from smoke inhalation and the Michigan State Police fire investigator said the blaze was undetermined in origin.

Fire officials said foul play is not suspected and the investigation is ongoing.

Firefighters are asking for donations for Christys 5-year-old daughter, who was staying with her grandparents the night of the fire.

Anyone wanting to help can send a donation to the Port Austin fire hall at P.O. Box 188.
