Kan. Firefighter Burned in House Fire

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. --  An Overland Park firefighter was hurt in a house fire on Monday afternoon in southern Overland Park. Fire officials said a mother and her son were home in the house near 140th and Birch streets when a fire broke out in the basement. The two were able to get out of the house without injury. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the basement, but they said smoke damaged much of the house.

An Overland Park firefighter was hurt in a house fire on Monday afternoon in southern Overland Park.

Fire officials said a mother and her son were home in the house near 140th and Birch streets when a fire broke out in the basement. The two were able to get out of the house without injury.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the basement, but they said smoke damaged much of the house.

Fire officials said the firefighter was burned around his safety mask. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment. There is no word on the firefighter’s condition.
