PHOENIX --

More than two dozen firefighters from the Scottsdale and Phoenix fire departments battled a blaze that broke out at a foreclosed home at about 4:30 a.m. Friday.

Crews have gone defensive on the first-alarm fire near 113th Street and Jomax Road in the Troon North area of Scottsdale, and several nearby homes were evacuated due to blowing embers, according to a public information officer from the Scottsdale Fire Department.

One man was inside the 8,236-square foot mansion when the fire broke out, but he escaped unharmed, the officer said.

The fire fully engulfed the home, causing the roof to collapse, the officer said.

The cause of the fire is unknown; however, the home is a total loss estimated at $1,986,375, according to the fire department.

Listings show the home had been on the market for about $3.5 million for several months before it went into foreclosure Nov. 4.
