SOUTHWEST RANCHES, Fla. --

A mother and daughter escaped a fire Wednesday morning after they noticed smoke filling their home.

According to Mike Jachles of the Broward Sheriff's Office, firefighters arrived at the burning two-story house in the 14000 block of Mustang Trail at about 7 a.m.

Jachles said the mother and son called 911 after they smelled the smoke, then escaped with their cats.

Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting from beneath the front of the house, Jachles said. They battled the blaze and put it out in about 30 minutes.

No injuries were reported, Jachles said. Officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
