MOJAVE, Calif. --

County firefighters were honored Tuesday for helping to avert a potential disaster at the unveiling of the commercial spacecraft Spaceship Two.

Nearly 1,000 people stood under a tent the night of Dec. 7, at Mojave Air and Space Port enjoying the unveiling of Spaceship Two.

Officials said many people had flown in from across the world for the big event and everything was going as planned until officials keeping track of the wind decided everyone had to be evacuated for safety reasons.

The strong winds picked up, lifting the tent several feet in the air, right where everyone had been standing a short time earlier.

Officials thanked those involved with the evacuation for their quick actions.

Officials said the tent blew away about 30 minutes after the evacuation and no one was injured.
