Chief's Car, Taxi Collide in Wis.

MILWAUKEE -- A fire chief responding to a natural gas leak collided with a taxi on the city's north side just before 8 a.m. Friday. According to the Milwaukee Fire Department, Battalion 2 Chief Alonzo Chapman was going eastbound on Capitol Drive with his red lights flashing when he encountered heavy traffic. He moved into the westbound lanes, but continued going east.

A fire chief responding to a natural gas leak collided with a taxi on the city's north side just before 8 a.m. Friday.

According to the Milwaukee Fire Department, Battalion 2 Chief Alonzo Chapman was going eastbound on Capitol Drive with his red lights flashing when he encountered heavy traffic. He moved into the westbound lanes, but continued going east.

A taxi was turning north onto 29th Street and the vehicles collided.

"I was making a left turn. This guy came from the wrong way, from nowhere and hit me on the driver's side," taxi driver Khurem Awan said.

Awan wasn't hurt.

Chapman was taken to Froedtert Hospital with chest and head pain.

The Fire Depatment told 12 News the taxi driver was cited at the scene.
