SNELLVILLE, Ga. --
A fire damaged part of a Snellville church Wednesday afternoon, firefighters said.
The fire started at about 3:30 p.m. in the kitchen of the rear sanctuary at the Snellville United Methodist Church on East Main Street.
According to Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge, firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames inside the rear sanctuary when they arrived. The fire was knocked down in a few minutes, Rutledge said.
The main sanctuary suffered only minor damage, according to Rutledge.
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire, Rutledge said.
