Ill. FF Injured in Ambulance/Deer Crash

A Mattoon, Ill. firefighter was hospitalized the night of Oct. 7 after the ambulance he was riding in collided with a deer, according to the Journal Gazette and Times-Courier.

Firefighter Rob Ratliff was treating a patient in the rear of the Mattoon Fire Department
ambulance around 9:50 p.m. in Humboldt Township when the incident occurred.

The patient and the ambulance's driver were not injured in the crash, according to the newspaper's report.

The accident damaged the front of the vehicle and required assistance from an ambulance service in Arcola, Ill.

The firefighter's condition is currently unknown, but he is expected to be OK.
