DETROIT --
A young mother and her newborn are hospitalized after their home was firebombed on the city's Eastside, according to Detroit police.
Kynya Washington, who is 1 month old, and her mother, Kentoya Washington, 21, are in critical condition.
Police said the fire started at 4 a.m.
"This is a blatant attempt of assault with a firebomb," said Fire Investigator Capt. Steve Varnas.
There were six people inside the home at the time. Four of them got out safely.
"I woke up and came down the stairs. Everything was on fire, smoking and everything. My little brother said come out the side door so I did and got out," said Martise Washington.
Fire investigators said they have found two Molotov cocktails.
The baby is recovering at Children's Hospital. The mother is at Detroit Receiving Hospital in Detroit.
