MADISON, Wis. --

Madison firefighters are battling a fire that began in a garage on Friday morning, but has now spread to two houses on the city's East Side.

The fire is now in the attic on both sides of the structure in the 200 block of Shady Leaf Road, according to Bernadette Galvez, Madison Fire Department's public information officer.

The heat from the blaze also melted some siding across the alley way from the homes.

The fire was knocked down at about 11:43 a.m, but firefighters are now putting out hot spots.

Galvez said that both houses sustained major damage.

One home is a total loss while the second house's upper floor was damaged.

No one was hurt, WISC-TV reported.
