HONOLULU --
A man in his 30s was discovered dead after a boat fire on Pier 38.
Firefighters respond to the call at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday. It took a little more than 15 minutes to contain a fire that appears to have started in the wheelhouse of the 75-foot commercial fishing vessel, officials said.
Shortly after their arrival, reports were received stating the possibility that someone might be aboard the burning ship.
Later, after the fire was under control, firefighters found the body of a man is his 30s down in the hold of the ship near the engine.
Firefighters removed the man’s body from the ship’s hold and brought it up onto the pier so that EMS could conduct a through assessment of the victim.

The fire was extinguished at 11:08 p.m. but firefighters remained at the scene until the medical examiner arrived.
