BAKERSFIELD, Calif. --

On Monday around 1:07 p.m., a call was received by the Kern County Fire Department for a gas leak behind the Superior Court of California, Traffic Court in the 3100 block of Arrow Street in Bakersfield.

Approximately 15 Kern County Firefighters responded to the incident assisted by Bakersfield City Fire Department, Kern County Sheriffs Department, Bakersfield Police Department and the Court Bailiffs.

Upon arrival, fire crews were faced with a gas leak which occurred when a construction company clipped a low pressure gas main during maintenance, Sean Collins with the Kern County Fire Department reported.

The area was cordoned off by Law Enforcement Officers on scene who simultaneously evacuated the building with the assistance of the Court Bailiffs, Collins said.

Fire crews monitored the resulting gas plume until completely dissipated and the area is safe to be returned back to the occupants, Collins said.

PG&E arrived very quickly and shut the supply valve to the damaged pipe and repaired the piping.
