DECATUR, Ala. --

A train derailment in Decatur overnight left a conductor dead.

Authorities said two trains operated by CSX Railroad collided and went off the tracks near Fourth Avenue Southwest.

Decatur police and firefighters responded to the crash at about 11:30 p.m.

Crews recovered the conductor's body early Wednesday. CSX said heavy equipment was brought in from Memphis to remove the damaged rail cars.

Authorities said the trains were carrying soybeans and soybean oil.

CSX officials and federal safety investigators will conduct investigations to determine what caused the crash.
