BAY VILLAGE, Ohio --

A 7-year-old boy died after being rescued from Lake Erie.

Firefighters rescued two other children who were with Michael Nesby. They also struggled with the rough water at Huntington Beach. Their conditions are unknown.

Crews searched the waters for about an hour.

Once Nesby was found, firefighters performed CPR on the boy and he was airlifted to MetroHealth Medical Center. The coroner ruled that Nasby's cause of death was drowning.

Officials said that there haven't been lifeguards at the beach since Aug. 17 and signs are posted warning that no one is on duty.

There were heavy undercurrents with waves reaching as high as 4 feet at when the child was swept away.

Huntington Beach is located in Bay Village, about 13 miles west of downtown Cleveland.
