Illinois Crews Battle Refinery Fire

A full hazardous materials response was called for the fire.

ALSIP, Ill. --

Firefighters remained at the scene of a fire at a refinery and tank farm in south suburban Alsip more than six hours after the fire was initially reported.

The fire was reported at about 4:30 a.m. at Pulaski Road and 131st Street, according to an Alsip Fire Prevention District firefighter.

Unconfirmed fire dispatch reports indicate at least one explosion was reported.

The firefighter could not confirm whether there were any injuries, but said a full hazardous materials response was called for the fire.
