Of the three people who jumped from a burning apartment in Taft, one was seriously injured.

TAFT, Calif. --

Three people jumped from a burning apartment in Taft, Calif. One was seriously injured.

Firefighters said at about 12:30 a.m. flames broke out inside a two-story apartment on Madison Street and quickly spread to other units.

Fire officials and witnesses said three people were trapped on the second floor of the building by the fire when they jumped out of a second-story window.

Neighbors said a woman broke her leg and suffered other injures during the fall.

A dog died in the fire and other pets are missing.

Three families lost their homes and the American Red Cross is helping them.

Damage is estimated at $300,000.

There's no word on the cause.
