DETROIT --

A 13-year-old teenager was killed when her home in the 6000 block of Barrett Road on Detroit's east side caught on fire on Friday.

Firefighters said the family was using two stoves for heat and a shirt apparentlycaught on fire in the basement of the home.

A teen who suffered from a mental disorder was killed in the fire.

"It was huge. When I first heard the screaming and I saw the 6-year-old run out of the house, I grabbed a blanket to grab the baby. By the time I got out of the house the whole house was on fire," said neighbor Anne Marie Burbridge.

Four other people inside the home were able to get out safely.

A 6-year-old and a 24-year-old man are staying with neighbors. A 40-year-old woman is in the hospital being treated for smoke inhalation.

"It looks like they lost everything. She don't have ID. She don't have nothing. She don't have anything. She didn't get a chance to get anything," said relative Bernice Chatfield.

A grandmother also lives in the home. She was not home at the time.

Officials said there were no smoke detectors in the house.
