Virginia Fire Truck, Tractor-Trailer Collide

Jan. 3, 2008
Three Prince George firefighters were transported to the hospital after the crash.

Prince George firefighters were responding to a fire call on Jan 2 around 3:30 p.m. when their rig and a tractor-trailer collided.

"The fire truck had lights and sirens going," said Captain Eric Young of Prince George Police Department. "And was responding to a fire call. The vehicles collided in an intersection at Rives Road and County Drive (also known as 460)."

The fire truck was spun around 180 degrees after impact, Captain Young said. For the impact, it happened at the best possible spot. Another three back and it would have been a T-bone.

The three firefighters were transported by ambulance to Southside Regional Hospital. Their conditions have not been released.

Captain Young said the county Crash Team is investigating, and that the Commonwealth Attorney will decide if any charges are to be filed.

The truck driver was not injured.
