INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, Pa. --

Two people died in a Washington County fire early Sunday morning, officials said.

Firefighters said the fire destroyed a mobile home in Avella.

Crews from Avella, West Middle Town, Taylors Town and Claysville responded to the fire.

"When we arrived, there was nobody outside. When we saw the automobile it seemed kind of fishy that there were people inside," said Avella Fire Chief Eric Temple.

Firefighters said the fire broke out inside a mobile home along Poplar Road in Independence Township shortly before 5 a.m.

"Upon arriving we found two adult individuals, and a family pet, who were deceased in the fire," said Washington County Coroner Tim Warco.

The state police and the Fire Marshal said they are investigating the cause, but have given no word yet on the identities of the victims
