One Person Killed in Ohio House Fire

Witnesses said that at one point, flames were shooting nearly 40 feet in the air.

ELYRIA, Ohio --

An investigation is under way into a deadly house fire in Elyria.

The fire started just before 9 p.m. Tuesday on 17th Street between Middle and West avenues.

Firefighters from Lorain and Carlyle Township helped battle the blaze.

One person was killed. Their identity has not been released.

The two-story home was destroyed. Witnesses said that at one point, flames were shooting nearly 40 feet in the air.

The Elyria Fire Department is investigating.
