MIAMI --

South Florida firefighters are expected in large numbers at a County Commission meeting on Friday.

They are concerned about a new plan for the Miami-Dade Fire Department to take over smaller departments.

Under the proposed plan, Hialeah, Key Biscayne, Miami Beach, Miami, and Miami-Dade Fire Departments would merge.

State Rep. Julio Robaina said the plan would save taxpayers $50 million a year.
