DALTON, Ga. --

A 13-month-old baby girl was killed Thursday morning in an apartment fire, Dalton police said.

Police department spokeswoman Kristy Hunter identified the victim as Liliana Cabrera. Five others in the apartment did not receive serious injuries, although the baby's grandmother was taken to a hospital where she was treated and released. The child's mother, her fiance and the baby's 6- and 7-year-old brothers were also in the apartment when fire broke out about 6:30 a.m.

Hunter said the fire was in an upstairs bedroom of the 2-story apartment at the Park Place Apartments. The baby's crib was in that room, she said. An autopsy will be performed, Hunter said.

Hunter said firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after 6:30 a.m., could not enter the apartment because the fire was too hot, and had to battle it from outside.

The fire was contained to one unit.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation.
