Two Children Killed in North Carolina House Fire

An adult and a child were able to escape the fire unharmed.

Two children died in a house fire near Stallings on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Stallings police said someone called 911 and reported a vehicle fire just before 1 p.m. When Stallings officers, Union County deputies and first responders arrived they found a house on Cypress Court fully engulfed in flames.

Officers tried to go into the home, but they were forced back by the smoke and flames.

The Stallings Fire Department, the Hemby Bridge Volunteer Fire Department and the Mint Hill Fire Department all responded. Once the flames were extinguished, firefighters discovered two small bodies inside the house.

Police said an adult and a child were able to escape the fire unharmed.

The Union County Fire Marshals Office, the Union County Sheriffs Department, the Stallings Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation are all looking into what happened.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Police said the childrens bodies will be sent for autopsies to determine their exact cause of death.

The names of the victims have not been released.
